Mrs. Mier was born on Oct. 19, 1906, to William Horace Doores and Mollie Grant (Fitts) in Bluejacket, Okla., which was still Indian Territory (Oklahoma became a state the following year). She married Ray Nollner Edmonds on Aug. 1, 1925, at Vinita, Okla. They moved to Oswego and had four children before Ray died in 1935 as the result of an accident. As told her granddaughter many years later… he was the “love of her life.”
Lela was employed by the Labette County Welfare Department in Oswego from January 1938 until January 1970, when she retired.
Lela loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed golfing with friends and made many beautiful quilts that will be enjoyed for years to come. She was an avid reader and was always current on local and national events. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Oswego.
Mrs. Mier was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; a brother; her second husband, Gerald O. Mier; and all four of her precious children, Joy Edmonds, Bobbie Edmonds, V.R. Edmonds Jr. and Shirley Sevart. Three great-grandsons, Chad Edmonds, David Sevart and Jeremy Henderson, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Edmonds of Larned; a son-in-law, Carvel Sevart of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
