Clara “Grace” Varwig, 87, of Parsons, formerly of Bartlett, died at 12:46 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Labette Health in Parsons. 

She was born on Sept. 18, 1925, in Tishomingo, Okla., to James and Anna Mae (Gilliam) Smith. As a young girl, she grew up in Tishomingo, where she attended school and was a graduate of Tishomingo High School.

On Feb. 10, 1946, she married Alfred H. Varwig in Lawton, Okla. He survives of the home.

She worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes.

Other survivors include a son, Hank Varwig of Siloam Springs, Ark.; a daughter, Brooka Landrith of Bartlett; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Steve, in 1964; two brothers; and four sisters.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. Friends may call at their convenience Monday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
