OSWEGO — Eldon L. Harshaw, 88, of Oswego passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Oswego Community Hospital.

Eldon was born on May 13, 1924, in Oswego to the union of Oliver and Ona (Wilkins) Harshaw. He graduated from Oswego High School in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1944 to April 1946 in the Pacific aboard the USS Monterey.

He married Darlene Miller on June 19, 1948, in Oswego at the Methodist Church parsonage.

Most people will remember Eldon as a home builder in and around Oswego, a rural mail carrier and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3399, for which he was commander in 1985-86. Later years, you would see Eldon tooling around Oswego in his golf cart, having coffee with his buddies.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Maurice, Francis and John.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene of the home; three daughters, Beverly Miller of Wellington, Gina Rae Davis and her husband, Clifford, and Marsha Harshaw, all of Oswego; two grandsons, Lucas J. Nodine and his wife, Julie, of Parsons and Myles Miller and his companion, Heather Holmes, of Wellington; his great-granddaughter, Raynee Miller of Wellington; and three sisters, Elizabeth Cooper, Marian Becker and Lois Robinson.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego. Pastor Bob Conway will officiate. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
