Irene Smith, 88, a former Parsons and Erie resident, died at 3:14 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul. She had been in failing health.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1924, at Banzet, Okla., to Ira L. and Edna Gladys (Davis) Williamson. She grew up near Banzet and at South Mound and attended schools there.
She worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and later at J.C. Penney, retiring in 1990. She was also a homemaker.
She married William H. "Bill" Smith on Aug. 10, 1946, at Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2003.
She served as a Cub Scout and Brownie mother. She participated in the Senior Citizens Bowling League. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and served as the church financial secretary. She also volunteered serving meals for the Monday Lunch Bunch and Just Another Tuesday.
Survivors include a son, Larry Smith and his wife, Sue, of Parsons; a daughter, Judy Magner and her husband, Galen, of Erie; six grandchildren, Kim Lamb and her husband, Ron, of rural Parsons, Casey Magner of Parsons, Brad Smith of Fayetteville, Tenn., Adam Smith of New Braunfels, Texas, Carrie Berry and her husband, Travis, of Parsons, Nick Smith and his wife, Marcie, of Parsons; 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jack Smith; and two sisters, Opal Lawson and Rosene Spriggs.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
