AFTON, Okla. — Bonnie A. Spriggs, 77, of rural Afton, Okla., formerly of rural Oswego, died at 8:16 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa.
She was born June 10, 1935, in rural McCune to Eli Olen and Nellie Leah (Carson) Czapansky. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in rural McCune and later attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
She married Roland D. Spriggs in October 1951. Following marriage, they lived in Parsons before moving to Lawrence, where they owned and operated a concrete construction company. In 1969, they returned to Labette County where they lived until moving to Afton, Okla., in the early 1990s. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1995.
In earlier years, she helped with the family business and had also worked as a housekeeper. She enjoyed fishing, reading her Bible and in March 2012 had the opportunity to travel to Israel. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Roland "Ron" Spriggs and his wife, Patti, and Todd Spriggs and his wife, Tiffany, all of rural Afton, Okla.; a daughter, Belinda Matthews of Perry, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Sprague and her husband, Carroll, of rural Parsons; a sister-in-law, Geraldean Czapansky of Oswego; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Czapansky; and a son-in-law, Jim Matthews.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oswego Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience to sign the register until 5:30 p.m. today at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The casket will remain closed.
