ARCHIE, Mo. — Kurt Alan Volz, 55, of Archie, Mo., formerly of Parsons, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.
He was born July 18, 1957, in Parsons to Francis J. and Teresanell (Hill) Volz. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons and was a graduate of Parsons High School. He then attended Pittsburg State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts.
After college, he moved to the Kansas City area, where he had been employed by the St. Joseph News Gazette, the Olathe Daily News and was currently employed by the Kansas City Star.
He was a Catholic. Mr. Volz especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his pets and music.
Survivors include his father, Francis Volz of Parsons; four brothers, Jim Volz of Cordele, Ga., Brian Volz of Cameron, Mo., Neal Volz of Kansas City, Mo., and Dan Volz of Overland Park; a sister, Lori Horan of Overland Park; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Teresanell Volz, on May 13, 1998; grandparents; uncles; and a cousin.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
