SARCOXIE, Mo. — Bobby D. Campbell, 84, formerly of Parsons, departed this life on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1928, to Roscoe and Daisy (Morton) Campbell in rural Sarcoxie, Mo. He was a 1946 graduate of Sarcoxie High School. During his senior year, he was crowned Sarcoxian King of his class. He was an alumni of Pittsburg State College.

He served in the Army during the Korean War, returning home in 1953.

On June 6, 1954, he married Theobell G. (Chandler) Campbell and together they shared the last 53 years, making Parsons their home until her death on Nov. 1, 2008. For the last three years, he resided at the Missouri Veteran Home in Mount Vernon, Mo.

He was a deacon of Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons. He also served as Sunday school director and treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion of Red Oak and the Kansas State Federation of Music Clubs and was very active in life insurance organizations. He also was a member of Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony of Eureka Springs, Mo. He sponsored Calfarley’s Boys and Girls Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.

For many years, he supported area youth athletic programs. Bobby and Theobell loved to travel, making trips to London, Alaska and Mexico. They also enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends. He loved golfing and bowling.

Survivors include his “twin” brother, Billy G. Campbell and his wife, Jean, of LaRussell, Mo.; a brother, Fred Campbell and his wife, Opal, of Carthage, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Campbell of Charlotte, N.C., and Sue Campbell of Fresno, Calif.; 16 nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Ralph B. Campbell, Talmage Campbell and Bruce Campbell.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Sarcoxie, with Brother Sam Wilson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sarcoxie schools music department.
