Abdul Nawab Omarkhail, 78, of Parsons died at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Labette Health.

He was born March 22, 1934, in Laghman, Afghanistan, to Abdul Monaff and Haniffa (Rahimullah) Omarkhail. He immigrated to the District of Columbia in the early 1960s to attend American University.

He worked recently at Wal-Mart as a greeter.

He is survived by six children, D.J. Omarkhail of Chattanooga, Tenn., Peter Omarkhail of Parsons, Shereen Ellis of Altamont, Rebekah Elliott of Mexico, Kathryn Omarkhail of Fort Worth, Texas, and Anissah Jackson of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. today on the family’s land located at 12000 and Scott roads in rural Labette County.

Memorials are suggested to the Lung Cancer Unit at the Via-Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, 67357.
