ERIE — Shirley J. Harding, 92, of Erie died Friday, March 15, 2013, at her home. She had been in her usual health and death was not expected.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Huron, S.D., to Cecil and Hattie (Marks) Crabb. At the age of 13, her family moved to Kansas, where she attended school and was a 1938 graduate of Grant Township High School in Stark.

Through the years, she worked at Aeroduct in Chanute, Bush Hog in Galesburg, Swift and Co. in Parsons, Kustom Signal in Chanute and Prest Lumber Co. in Erie. 

She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading and spending time with her family.

She married Don Harding on Sept. 15, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1978.

Survivors include a son, Doug Harding and his wife, Jan, of Erie; a daughter-in-law, Sue Harding of Thayer; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; a son, Dick Harding; and a great-grandchild.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Cemetery near Erie. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
