TOPEKA — Melba L. Hoss, 65, of Topeka died on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Midland Hospice House.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1947, in Oswego to Cecil and Mabel Winters Gillespie. She attended Pittsburg State University and graduated from Washburn University.

On July 22, 1967, she married Terry Hoss. They enjoyed more than 45 years together. He survives.

She was an examiner for 22 years with SRS and retired in 2010.

Melba, KAØBAT, was active in many amateur radio organizations and functions. She liked to sew, knit and crochet. She was an avid reader and enjoyed water skiing, boating, fishing and camping.

She was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

Other survivors include two brothers, David Gillespie and his wife, Karen, of Olathe and Kenneth Gillespie and his wife, Nancy, of Overland Park; two sisters-in-law, Candy Reed and her husband, Phil, of Kansas City and Penelope Bartlett of Wichita; and seven nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The service will be at 1 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, Topeka, followed by burial in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to YLRL Scholarship Fund (Young Lady Radio League) and can be sent to the funeral home.
