ST. PAUL — Vera B. (Volmer) Diskin, 91, of St. Paul died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

She was born May 30, 1918, in St. Paul to George and Rose (Knott) Volmer. She grew up in St. Paul, where she attended Odell country school and was a 1937 graduate of St. Francis High School.

She married Patrick Diskin Jr. on Nov. 20, 1939, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Following marriage, the couple farmed in St. Paul, where they raised their family of six children. Vera also worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons from 1967 until retiring in 1981.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul and its Altar Society, and she was a 60-year member of Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, growing flowers and gardening. She especially enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren and will be fondly remembered for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls and noodles.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas P. Diskin and his wife, Martha, of Gainesville, Texas, Charles M. Diskin and his wife, Judy, of St. Paul, Verl Diskin and his wife, Carol, of Walnut and David Diskin and his wife, Jean, of Girard; two daughters, Mary Paula Goodsel and her husband, A.J., of St. Clair, Mich., and Rose Mary “Rosie” Stevens and her husband, Ron, of Independence; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Volmer of St. Paul; and two sisters, Rosemary O’Toole of Girard and Clara Belle Ebert of Flush.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Diskin Jr. on April 20, 1984; two brothers, George and Bill Volmer; and a sister, Garnett Boaz.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the church. The parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church, where the family will receive friends immediately following.
