OSWEGO — Betty J. Hellwig, 85, of Oswego died Friday, April 30, 2010, at Chetopa Manor.

She was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Mound Valley the daughter of Charles and Maude (Campbell) Spoonamore. She graduated from Oswego High School in 1942 and married Carl W. Hellwig Jr. on Nov. 17, 1945, in Parsons. The couple farmed north of Oswego.

Mrs. Hellwig was a very talented musician who enjoyed singing and playing the piano and organ. She also enjoyed china painting. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she also played the organ. She was a member of the 101 Homemakers Club.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Hellwig of Shawnee and Mark Hellwig and his wife, Terri, of Oswego; a daughter, Karla Sullivan of Oswego; six grandchildren, Heidi Hellwig, Kelby Hellwig and his wife, Amber, Justin Sullivan and his wife, Amy, Jeremy Sullivan and his wife, Rhonda, Amy Ford and her husband, Bryan, and Craig Hellwig and his wife, Jessica; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Samuel and Lauren Sullivan, Lillian and Karly Sullivan, Kody and Grayson Hellwig and Wolf and Hawk Hellwig; a sister, Mary Lou Weaver and her husband, Leo, of Greeley, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, on Nov. 4, 2003; and two brothers, Charles and Doyle Spoonamore.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oswego with the Rev. David Domanski officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery south of Oswego. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Murdock Funeral Home in Oswego.
