She was born Oct. 16, 1937, in Chetopa to Edward Claude and Hollis (Caldwell) Whitmire. She grew up and attended schools in Chetopa and was a graduate of Chetopa High School.
Through the years, she worked in housekeeping at a girls’ dormitory in Kansas City, Mo.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Joplin. She enjoyed participating in church services at nursing homes and working crossword puzzles and word-find puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Montez Whitmire of Joplin; a daughter, Stephanie Partner and her husband of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, James Jones of San Diego; three sisters, Forestine “Flo” Taylor of Joplin, Linnie Mae Jones of Kansas City, Mo., and Sarah Redmond of Kansas City, Mo.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a daughter.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa is in charge of arrangements.
