Donald Delos Alvord, 84, of Parsons, formerly of Winfield, died on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Labette Health.

He was born June 5, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Ira D. and Alda (Simmons) Alvord. He was raised and attended school in Yates Center, graduating from high school there.

He was a retired USD 465 certified employee.

He was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years and also worked as head custodian.

He married Cecil Audine Courtney on Aug. 2, 1948. She preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Lee Alvord of Sterling and Robert “Bob” Alvord and his wife, Debbie, of Parsons; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Sara, Nicholas and Andrew.

He was preceded in death by a stepsister, Gwen.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Winfield. Friends may call from noon to service time on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
