Norma D. Carrico, 79, of Thayer died at 5 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at her home in Thayer.

She was born in Cherryvale on April 4, 1931, the daughter of Raymond V. and Mamie (Nelson) Padley. She attended schools in Thayer.

She married Merwin Bowers on Sept. 11, 1947. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1965. She married Dale C. Stafford on Aug. 23, 1974. He preceded her in death in May 28, 1986. On Sept. 21, 1990, she was married Jack L. Carrico. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2005.

Norma was the owner/operator of the Thayer Gazette. She also had a craft store in Mama C’s in Thayer.

She was a member of Thayer Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah J. Thomas of Wellsville and Shelly Showalter of Thayer; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; an extended family including Jerry Stafford of Arkansas, Randy Stafford of Colorado, Bob Stafford, Ron Stafford, Bill Carrico, Gary Carrico and Eddie Carrico, all of Thayer, and Cathy Herman of Oklahoma; two brothers, Bill Padley of Cherryvale and Ralph Padley of Coffeyville; two sisters, Francis Harris of Thayer and Florence Rector of Fort Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Mervin Bowers, Dale Stafford and Jack Carrico; a son, Mervin Bowers; two grandchildren; and nine siblings.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Thayer Christian Church. Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thayer Christian Church in Thayer.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Parsons and may be left with the funeral home.
