Juanita F. Hallman, 68, of Parsons died at 6:46 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Labette Health.

She was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Parsons to Frederick L. and Sarah E. (Amrine) Schmid. She grew up in Parsons and attended rural schools. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1959. She attended Labette Community College and received her licensed practical nurse certification.

She had been employed at the Katy Employees Hospital and Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, from which she retired.

She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was president of the Belmont Towers tenants’ association.

She was an avid bingo player. She was also an avid doll and music box collector. She loved crafts, jewelry making and oil painting.

Survivors include a brother, Vernon Schmid and his wife, Susan, of North East, Md.; two sisters, Joy Wolgamott and Barbara Schmid, both of Parsons; nieces and nephews, Gary Wolgamott, Billy Wayne Wolgamott Jr., Jim Wolgamott, Sharon Wolgamott, Judy Nance, Jackie Schmid, Beth Jackett, Susanna Schmid and Mary Schmid; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; three great-great-nieces and nephews; and two uncles, Woodrow Schmid and his wife, Betty, and Warren Schmid and his wife, Rosemary, all of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Baumdecker.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
