OSWEGO — Lillie Belle Dresher, 90, of Oswego died on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Chetopa Manor in Chetopa. She was surrounded by many members of her loving family.

She was born in a log cabin in Benton County, Ark., near Decatur, the ninth child of Don P. and Maude (Leggett) DeWitt on Feb. 24, 1920. She moved to Chetopa at age 2 1/2 and attended several area rural grade schools, returning to graduate Chetopa High School in 1939. She recently attended her 71st high school reunion. She graduated Brown Mackie School of Business in Kansas City, Kan., in 1940 and could type 120 words a minute on a manual typewriter.

She married Robert (Bob) Geer on Nov. 8, 1941, in Liberty, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1950. She married George Dresher on March 24, 1951, in Chetopa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1987.

She worked at Cooper’s Dairy Bar, Utes Nursing Home and as a paraprofessional and special education bus driver for Chetopa schools. Later she drove the Chetopa senior citizens bus and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church while living in Chetopa and Mother of God Catholic Church when she moved to Westside Senior Citizens Apartments in Oswego in 1992.

Survivors include her five children, Kay Foster and her husband, David, of Pierce City, Mo., Ann Moore and her husband, James, of Parsons, Jim Geer and his wife, Jeani, of Minot, N.D., Mary Russell and her husband, John, of Oswego and Theresa Dresher of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Donna, Danny, Jamie, Ryan, Tony, Tiffany, Josh, Jeff, Jason, Jessica, Jena and Julie; 22 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Larry, Chris, William, Jennifer, Michael, Nathan, Matthew, Jordyn, Jacy, Tia, Madi, Rachelle, Kirstien, Justin, Josh, Jazen, Jordan, Jesse, Brynn, Jaya and Jolee; 10 great-great-grandchildren, Meki, Kyla, Trey, Lexi, Jerry, Charity, Jacob, Elizabeth, Jorlen and Jayden; a sister-in-law, Anna DeWitt of Overland Park; and many nieces and nephews who were as special to her as her children.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers Joe, Jim, Raymond and Ralph DeWitt; and six sisters, Hazel Reynolds, Olive DeWitt, Mae Walker, Dona Asher, Raydell Hamblin and Amy Ledbetter.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego with the Rev. Larry Parker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa next to her beloved husband, George.
