DODGE CITY — Michael Joseph Thomas, 84, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Sterling House of Dodge City.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1925, at St. Paul to Lawrence Alva and Theresa Henrietta (Scharfen) Thomas. He graduated from school in St. Paul.

He was employed at Fairmount Foods.

He served during World War II with the 10th Mountain Division.

On Oct. 15, 1950, he married Ines Noreen Wendel at Dodge City. She preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 1994.

Survivors include his children, Gary Thomas of Dodge City, Linda King of Dodge City, Nancy Swank of Haysville and Stephen Thomas of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Moore of Kemah, Texas and Betty Richards of Ogden, Utah.

He was preceded in death by a son, James “Jim” J. Thomas; and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Knights of Columbus rosary will follow. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
