Kenneth L. Kuffler, 91, of Parsons died at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Labette Health. He had been in failing health for several years.

He was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Parsons to Andrew and Mary (Bordall) Kuffler. As a young boy, he grew up on the family farm northeast of Parsons, where he attended Stone Palace School.

He served in the U.S. Army Tank Corps from 1942 to 1945 in Oahu and Saipan. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Council Bluff, Iowa, where he worked at Omaha Standard, retiring from there in 1984. After retirement, he returned to Parsons, where he had lived since.

He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, in Parsons. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, playing pool and playing the guitar and mandolin.

On March 9, 1946, he married Mildred Genevieve Holding in Erie. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Marcia Dyer of Parsons and Dora Kay Edie of Oswego; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Leroy Kuffler; a brother, Wilbur Kuffler; a sister, Iala Marie; and two grandchildren.

The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
