CHERRYVALE — Thelma Marie Austin, 90, of Cherryvale died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Elmhaven East in Parsons.

She was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Blue Jacket, Okla., to Preston Lewis and Clara Lillian (Dale) Speer. She attended the Jones Spur School through the eighth grade and then Vinita school system through the ninth grade.

She married James Earl Austin on Feb. 15, 1939, in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death in October 1982.

She was employed by the Eastern State Hospital in Vinita as a cook for 18 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Vera M. Blake of Cherryvale; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale. A graveside celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.

The family suggests memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice and these may left at or sent to the funeral home.
