CHERRYVALE — Carilyn M. Clark, 86, of Cherryvale died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Mercy Hospital upon arrival.

She was born Feb. 10, 1924, at Cherryvale the daughter of Leo and Delma Ragan. She attended Cherryvale schools and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1942.

Mrs. Clark worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons for a time during World War II.

On Nov. 10, 1944, she married John S. Clark. The family moved throughout the country, including California, Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky and Minnesota, as well as Germany with the military before returning to Cherryvale in 1963. Mr. Clark preceded her in death on July 30, 1995.

Mrs. Clark worked at the Cox Variety Store after returning to Cherryvale until her retirement.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale and was active in church activities, including fixing funeral meals for many years and was active until about a year ago.

Survivors include a son, John S. Clark Jr. of Tulsa; a daughter, Carilyn J. Bernd of Dennis; five grandchildren, Christopher Bernd, Richard Bernd, Kathleen (Bernd) Arnold, Janna (Clark) Bendure and Benjamin Clark; seven great-grandchildren; and an identical twin sister, Marilyn Goodwin of Bartlesville, Okla.

She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Clark.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Cherryvale with the Rev. Lex Fox, former pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Cherryvale and these may be sent to the funeral home, 306 W. Main, Independence.
