Paul J. Seifert, 72, of rural Parsons died Sunday evening, Aug. 1, 2010, at his residence from injuries sustained in a farm-related accident.

He was born May 22, 1938, in Aline, Okla., to John F. and Maggie Lara (Prisk) Seifert. In 1952, he moved with his family to Parsons and was a 1956 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

Following high school, he entered the United States Army. During his 30-year career in the Army, he participated in the Vietnam War and numerous other foreign military conflicts, retiring on Jan. 31, 1987, with a rank of sergeant major. In 1989, he returned to Parsons where he was engaged in farming and raised cattle.

He was a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed his farm, working cattle, gardening and his dogs. He especially enjoyed spending time and visiting with his neighbors.

He married Margie Stewart on June 30, 1961, in Fayetteville, N.C. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Paul Seifert Jr. and his wife, Leah Ann, of Holly Springs, N.C., and Edward Seifert and his wife, Yesi, of Fayetteville, N.C.; a granddaughter, Morgan Seifert; two brothers, Loyal Seifert and his wife, Margaret, of Osage City and Fred Seifert and his wife, Amy, of Parsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Seifert, on March 13, 1984; and his mother, Maggie Seifert, on Aug. 21, 2002.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
