ALTAMONT — Jimmie A. Johnson, 68, of Altamont died late Tuesday evening, Aug. 3, 2010, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Parsons to Robert Wayne and Dora Delpha (Warren) Johnson. As a young boy, he grew up on the family farm in the Timber Hill area. He was a 1959 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont and also attended Parsons Junior College (now Labette Community College).

Following high school, he worked at Collins Radio Co. in Dallas, Eagle-Picher in Socorro, N.M., and Lowrance Electronics in Tulsa. He farmed most of his adult life and also worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant for several years. In 1997, he began working as a team leader at Cessna and continued his employment there until his retirement.

He was a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and collecting knives.

He married Judith Ann “Judy” Robinson on April 29, 1960, at Open Bible Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Scott Johnson of Altamont; a daughter, Brenda Johnson-Jenkins of Altamont; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Amanda, Matthew and Aidan Johnson, Ryan, Aaron and Molly May; two sisters, Delpha Bryant of rural Cherryvale and Roberta Wren of Owasso, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Delbert Johnson.

The service will be at 10 a.m.Saturday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, where the family will receive friends immediately following.
