Wreaths Across America, sponsored locally by the Parsons Museum and Historical Society, will have a ceremony at Oakwood cemetery, Parsons, KS at noon, Decemeber 14, 2024, to Honor, Remember, and Teach in conjunction with wreath laying on sponsored veterans graves.

Limited parking and seating will be available during the ceremony program. Please follow signage upon entry to the cemetery.

Anyone who would like to volunteer with the wreath laying portion of the program may contact the Parsons Museum at 620-450-6060 or 808283-1482.

At the library

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 6 p.m., family bingo.

TUESDAY: 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.

THURSDAY: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Christmas gift wrapping station, and the library will provide scissors, tape, wrapping paper, boxes, basic ribbons and tags; 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens. FRIDAY, Dec. 20: 2 p.m., teen winter party.

Christmas in downtown Parsons

Saturday will be a busy day of activity in downtown Parsons.

All day, participating downtown merchants (Mustard Seed, Jock’s Nitch, Parsons Fine Jewelry and George’s Cards and Gifts) will have cookies available while supplies last.

Parsons Public Library hosts Cookies with Santa starting at 10 a.m.

Outsider’s Tacos will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., or until sold out, at the Gathering Place pocket park.

A and Co. Salon will have permanent jewelry from noon to 2 p.m.

The Star of Wonder Christmas Shop will be open from noon to 4 p.m. at 1718 Main, formerly Studio One. This will be like the former Mistletoe Marketplace that offered affordable gifts for children to buy for family.

The Holiday Market vendor fair will run from noon to 5 p.m. at Carnegie Arts Center, 117 S. 17th St.

Thanksgiving traffic enforcement

OSWEGO — The Labette County Sheriff’s Office released the results of its Thanksgiving traffic enforcement campaign.

During the days leading up to and through the holiday weekend, officers wrote 16 adult/teen safety belt citations, made a DUI arrest and issued eight speeding citations. Deputies also issued 22 other citations and made another three arrests for drugs and warrants. In total, deputies made 94 enforcement stops during the period.

“We do our best to make sure that you are as safe as you can be while on our roads,” Undersheriff Greg Haraughty said in a prepared statement. “Please buckle up; your family and friends are counting on you.”

Winter hours at the museum

The Parsons Historical Museum has extended its winter hours and is now open the first weekend of every month through April.

On Saturdays and Sundays during this period, the museum will be open between 1 and 4 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

Stella Wells raises $68K

The Christmas tree auction to raise money for the Stella Wells Christmas Baskets program brought in $68,000, organizers posted on social media.

The auction was Dec. 6 and will allow the committee to help 800 families this year.

Boxes will be filled next week and Saturday, Dec. 21, will be distribution day for the boxes.

Parsons Livestock Auction

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 2,210 cattle.

Choice cows 116-131, canners- cutters 108-115, shelly cows 107 and down, bred cows up to $3,575, pairs up to $3,600; choice bulls 145-167, lower grades 144 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 250-448; 400-500, 290-430; 500-600, 280-348; 600-700, 235-318.50; 700-800, 225-287; 800 and over, 200-254.

Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 250-385; 400-500, 240-342.50; 500-600, 230-312; 600-700, 215-264; 700-800, 180-249; 800 and over, 180-224.
