Shop with a Cop helps 25 families on Sunday

The Parsons Police Department announced Monday that this year’s Shop with a Cop event, held at the Parsons Walmart, was a “resounding success.”

Thanks to the overwhelming support from the community and generous donors, the department raised over $14,000, allowing officers, troopers and firefighters to brighten the holidays for 25 families in need.

The Shop with a Cop program is a community tradition that pairs local law enforcement and emergency service personnel with children to shop for holiday gifts. This year’s event continued the tradition of fostering positive relationships between first responders and the community.

Joining the Parsons Police Department in this effort were the Parsons Fire Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol. Together, they brought smiles and cheer to families who needed it most.

“Shop with a Cop is more than just a holiday event; it’s a chance to build trust and connection within our community,” said Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd. “Seeing the joy on these children’s faces is a reminder of why we do what we do. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible.”

In addition to assisting families during the holiday season, the funds raised through this program allow the Parsons Police Department to provide aid throughout the year in extreme emergency situations.

This year’s event was particularly special as Duke Mason, a long-time supporter of Shop with a Cop, attended to witness the program in action. Mason, who hosts an annual concert with proceeds benefiting the program, expressed his pride in seeing the impact of his contributions firsthand.

“It’s incredible to see how much good can come from a community coming together,” said Chief Robert Spinks. “The support we’ve received from Walmart, Duke Mason and our local partners is truly inspiring. Together, we’re making a difference not only during the holidays but throughout the year.”

The Parsons Walmart has been a partner of the Shop with a Cop program since its inception, generously providing a welcoming venue and additional support to ensure the event’s success. In a statement, the police department said it extends its heartfelt thanks to Walmart, the community and all who contributed to this year’s event.
