Altamont man killed, Parsons man injured in highway collision Monday

CHERRYVALE — An Altamont man was killed and a Parsons man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 169 north of Cherryvale Monday night.

William B. Gregory, 30, of Altamont died at the scene of the accident, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The other driver, Cody L. Taylor, 27, Parsons, had serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

The accident happened at 5:50 p.m. Monday 3.5 miles south of U.S. 400 on U.S. 169.

According to the KHP, Gregory was southbound on U.S. 169 in a 2010 Nissan Altima. He was passing several vehicles and collided with Taylor’s 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup in the northbound lane.

Taylor’s truck spun counterclockwise, coming to rest off the road on the east side of U.S. 169.

Gregory’s car continued southbound, veering off the road and coming to rest in the grass on the west side of the highway.

Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the report, Gregory was not wearing a seat belt. Taylor was wearing a seat belt.
