Community Christmas dinner

The annual Community Christmas Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at First Christian and First Presbyterian churches, 29th and Southern.

Dine-in, carryout and deliver meals are available. The deadline for delivery is 1 p.m. Wednesday. Place a delivery order at [email protected] with your name, physical address and number of meals.

You may call (620)421-4790 to place a delivery meal. Please leave a message with your name, phone number, physical address and number of meals if no one answers the phone.

The meal is free but donations are accepted to continue the community dinner tradition.

Christmas Eve service in Galesburg

GALESBURG — The Galesburg United Methodist Church will worship Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24. The service will be lessons and carols. John Spare of Parsons will lead the singing. Everyone desiring a worship experience for this holy time of year is invited.

City commission to meet

The Parsons City Commission will have a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, in the commission room of the Parsons Municipal Building. The board will have a hearing on a budget amendment and conduct other end-of-year business.

This is a public meeting.

LCC board meets Jan. 9

The Labette Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the Cardinal Event Center. This is a public meeting.

At the library

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under. TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY: Closed for the Christmas holiday. THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens.

FRIDAY, Dec. 27: 4 p.m., Switch Freeplay for teens.

KDOT service anniversaries

The Kansas Department of Transportation honored employees celebrating service anniversaries in January. Listed below are the area employees and their hometowns. Those celebrating 25 years: David Bertling, equipment operator senior, Parsons. Those celebrating 20 years: Bruce Myres, highway maintenance supervisor, Chanute.

Parsons Livestock Auction

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,805 cattle.

Choice cows 122-130.50, canners-cutters 114-121, shelly cows 113 and down, bred cows up to $3,625, pairs up to $3,900; choice bulls 160-173, lower grades 159 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 300-445; 400-500, 290-396; 500600, 245-341; 600-700, 225-324; 700-800, 200-276; 800 and over, 190-246.

Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 280-395; 400-500, 270-325; 500-600, 260-319; 600-700, 190-288; 700-800, 170-254; 800 and over, 160-235.
