Norma Lee Carson

OSWEGO — Norma Lee (Schoenhofer) Carson, 93, of rural Oswego passed away at 1:03 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 26, 1931, in St. Paul to John Michael and Catherine Mae (Thomas) Schoenhofer. Norma was the ninth child out of 15 children. She grew up and attended school in St. Paul. Later she attended Labette Community College. She worked at Mercy Hospital, Parsons, Retirement Acres in Altamont and Labette County Medical Center, Parsons. She loved to care for people, and she did it wholeheartedly through her faith, which drove her in all that she did.

She baked cakes, cookies and pies for various special occasions. Every birthday of her kids and grandkids, she would make majestic cakes of all different creatures, cartoon characters, or sporting events that tasted amazing and unforgettable. She was a homemaker who sewed, cross-stitched and quilted multiple gifts for many family members and friends that will be cherished forever. She loved to attend all the ball games of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was very competitive and had a huge heart and she would do anything for anyone. She also enjoyed many trips with the local women’s groups who traveled on tour buses to various cities. She was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Francis in St. Paul, St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie and St. Patrick in Parsons. She was a long-term Oswego Mother of God and the Altar Society member in Oswego.

Norma Lee Schoenhofer married Bill J. Carson on June 5, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma. They renewed their vows at the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego on June 5, 1981. Bill preceded her in death on March 22, 2015.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Carson and his wife, Susie, of Altamont and Ed Carson of Parsons; the late Bill Carson and his wife, Linda, of South Mound; a daughter, Linda Carson of Oswego; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a handful of great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Jolene) Schoenhofer of Erie and Robert “Bob” Schoenhofer (Virginia) of St. Paul.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Bill J. Carson; her son, Bill M. Carson; and brothers and sisters, Eileen Barnes, Kathleen McGowen, Irene Smith, Madonna Amos, Rita Lockwood, Gerald “Jerry” Schoenhofer, Veneta Lowe, Verl Albert Schoenhofer, Ruth Wehlage, Bernice King, Mary Jo Maher and Rose Agnes Schoenhofer.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Carson- Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy Huser officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Grove Cemetery southwest of Dennis. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, with visitation to follow from 6 to 7 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. They may be left at or sent to the funeral home at P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
