OTES At the library

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under.

TUESDAY: 10 a.m., sensory hour for ages birth to 3; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.

WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m., story hour for ages 2 to 6; 2 p.m., afternoon movie, “McLinktock!”; 4 p.m., story hour at the splash pad for ages 2 to 6.

THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Dungeons and Dragons for teens.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 20: 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21: 11 a.m., stay and play for ages 5 and under.

Valeda community reunion

The Valeda community reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Valeda United Methodist Church. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the potluck will be served at noon. Please note the time change from previous years.

Drinks and tableware will be provided. Bring your favorite dish to share. A short business meeting will be followed by visiting and sharing memories with your neighbors and former neighbors.

DAR meets Monday

FRONTENAC —The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Oceanus Hopkins chapter, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Frontenac American Legion, 309 N. Labette. For information or questions, contact the regent at 620-330-3038.

100th anniversary at Hamilton

Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church, 1527 Morton, will celebrate its 100th church anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Harry Coker will be featured speaker. The event begins with a lunch from 12:30 to 2 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m.

Local church groups will also participate. Dinner will be served after the service.

Relay for Life

The annual Labette County Relay for Life event is scheduled next week.

The invitation-only survivor dinner will be Tuesday. The main event, which honors cancer survivors, their caregivers and remembers loved ones lost to cancer, will be from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in Forest Park. There will be a D.J., zumba, the BB82 food truck, face painting, the Parsons High School color guard, cheer, dance and other activities.

Free coin appraisals today

Members of the Parsons Coin Club will offer free coin appraisals from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at Labette Bank, 2121 Main. Members of the local club will assist individuals in identifying and evaluating their accumulations of old coins, currency and related items.

Sunbelt Special Rodeo

The Gary J. Daniels Sunbelt Rodeo will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center rodeo arena.

Awards will follow Saturday’s finals.

Authors series in Altamont

ALTAMONT — The Altamont Public Library’s Authors in Our Own Backyard series presents Gene R. Hogg at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Altamont Public Library, 407 S. Huston.

Prior to becoming a critical care nurse, Hogg received education in pastoral ministry and counseling. He has been a preacher, an elder and involved on many mission trips.

Hogg will discuss his book, “A Closer Walk with God.” He will also share his experience with publishing.

All are welcome to attend.

Parsons Livestock Auction

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,250 cattle.

Choice cows 130-139, canners- cutters 125-130, shelly cows 124 and down, bred cows up to $1,950, pairs up to $2,200; choice bulls 170-187, lower grades 169 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 250-344; 400-500, 240-319; 500-600, 240-279; 600700, 231-260; 700-800, 180259.50; 800 and over, 180233.50.
