An Overland Park man died the day after Christmas in a two-vehicle accident a mile north of Chanute.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 5:41 p.m. Dec. 26 on Douglas Road and 230th Road, which is a mile north of Chanute.
A 2023 Dodge Durango driven by Jason L. Mills, 46, Garnett, was southbound on Douglas Road during a pursuit with law enforcement. Mills struck James F. Ivory, 62, Overland Park, who was face down in the middle of the roadway. A 2010 Ford F-150 pickup was nearby and towed.
Ivory was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to Kansas City for an autopsy. Next of kin was not notified until Dec. 31, delaying the release of names in the preliminary accident report.
