Neosho County sheriff investigates cattle theft

THAYER — The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a cattle theft that happened on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day near Thayer.

The sheriff’s office reports that the cattle were in a pasture at 10th Road and Ford Road in rural Thayer. Twenty- three black calves were reported to have been stolen. Calves should have a purple ear tag and a brand on the back leg of the letter M with a circle around it.

The cattle were valued at about $2,000 a head, or $40,000 to $46,000 in total, according to Undersheriff Tyler Seibel.

The case is still under investigation. The sheriff’s office is working with the Kansas Livestock Investigation Unit.

If anyone has any information about this, they are encouraged to contact Lt. Jeff O’Daniel at the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office, 620-244-3888.
