Gerald Lee ‘Jerry’ Bohannon

OSWEGO — We remember Gerald Lee “Jerry” Bohannon, 67, of Oswego, whose spirit departed us on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Jerry Bohannon was born Oct. 17, 1957, in Hoisington to Gerald Lee Sr. and Beverly (Walker) Bohannon.

As a child, Jerry was fun-loving and athletic and excelled at track and field. At a young age, he was involved in an automotive accident, which left him partially paralyzed. Jerry’s positive attitude and sheer determination enabled him to walk across the stage at Oswego High School in 1977 to receive his diploma, which he did to a standing ovation.

Jerry inspired others with his entrepreneurial spirit. He was passionate about CB radios and was known throughout the listening area by his handle, “Music Man.” Over the years, truck drivers would stop to visit the “Music Man.” Jerry rented out movies to residents and staff of the nursing homes where he resided in Chetopa and Oswego. He also wrote short stories and newsletters. He relished family visits and the simple pleasures of a juicy burger and a Dr. Pepper float.

Jerry loved to laugh, made new friends daily and cherished his relationships. He lived a vibrant life and will always be remembered by loved ones for his quick wit, beaming smile and incredible sense of humor.

Jerry is survived by his father, Gerald L. Bohannon Sr., of Miami, Florida; his brother, Darin Bohannon (Kristi) of Springfi eld, Missouri, their three children and five grandchildren; his sister, Cindy Lane of Springfield, Missouri, her daughter and two grandchildren; his half sister, Kathy Torres of Kendall, Florida; two aunts, Shirley Carter and Linda Jones, who were dedicated to his care, and their families; and many other family members who were very special to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly (Walker) Bohannon.

The family would like to especially thank Debbie Kabrey of Oswego Health and Rehab, who was a beacon of support for Jerry over the years.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at McKee Cemetery in rural Oswego. Services are under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
