Beatrice E. ‘Bea’ Hammer

ALTAMONT — Beatrice E. “Bea” Hammer, 87, of Altamont passed away at 10:39 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at her home with her daughter, Terri, by her bedside.

Beatrice Evelyn Peterson was born on Oct. 3, 1937, to Adolph and Louva (Norton) Peterson in Athol, New York. She grew up and attended school in Westbrook, Connecticut.

A devoted wife, friend and mother, Beatrice raised and made a comfortable home for her family. Her home was the gathering place for her children’s and grandchildren’s friends, and she always had a meal or leftovers to feed anyone who was there. Her smile lit up a room, her sense of humor and quick wit were known by all who knew and loved her. A listening ear and her silent strength were always available for those who needed a sounding board.

Bea enjoyed working in the yard and caring for her houseplants. When her nest was empty, she joined Rex in landscaping and tree work until they retired. In her later years, Bea enjoyed adult coloring books and created many beautiful pictures for her grandchildren to display.

Bea will be missed immensely by her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful example of Psalm 31:28, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

She attended the Church of Christ in Coffeyville. On May 23, 1966, Bea married Rex Hammer in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2020.

She was also preceded in death by her sons, Michael Cefarelli, Timothy Cefarelli, Robert Cefarelli, Rex Hammer Jr. and Kenneth “Sam” Hammer; and her sisters, Patricia Leedy and Betty Kuehne.

The family suggests memorials to the Parsons Foursquare Church Food Pantry. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
