Jo A. Mattox

Jo A. Mattox, 83, of Parsons passed away the morning of Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Labette Health.

Jo Ann Turner was born on Aug. 23, 1941, to James Lester and Adeline Maude (Smith) Turner in Columbus. She grew up and attended school in Columbus, graduating from Columbus High School.

She began her working career in a garment factory in Columbus. At the time of her retirement, Jo was the secretary and vice president for their cable company.

Over the years, she was a member and attended the First Christian Church in Parsons.

Her family was the center of her life. Jo loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, baking, being outdoors and watching Raiders football and professional wrestling.

In 1962, Jo married Edward Gene Mattox in Iola. He survives of the home.

Other survivors are a daughter, Vicki Hance and her fiancé, Jimmy Bowin, of Parsons; three grandchildren, Justin Pizzo, Kristen Mattox and Blake Hance, all of Parsons; two great-grandchildren, Kamdyn and Kestyn; a brother, Michael Turner and his wife, Barbara, of Wichita; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two children, Michael “Mike” Mattox and Tonya Harrington; and two brothers, Paul Turner and Charles “Chuck” Turner.

The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Spring Hill Cemetery in rural Parsons.

The family suggests memorials to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter (PALS). These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
