MLK Day observance in Parsons
Parsons Ministerial Association will have a Martin Luther King Jr. observance at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church, 1527 Morton.
The keynote speaker is Justin Cartwright from Coffeyville. He is a Parsons native who is the son of the late Riley Cartwright, educator and pastor.
The Viking Dance Team will do liturgical dance under the direction of the Rev. Brianne Ford. The Viking debate team will present King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in four speaking parts.
Music will be provided by Shayla Reliford, Brenda and Wayne Mason, the Viking Choir and Ken Weaver. A number of PMA clergy will also participate. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this celebration of the life and ministry of King.
Wreaths Across America campaign
Wreaths Across America will match wreaths purchased through Friday, Jan. 17. All wreaths purchased through WAA sponsorship groups, including Parsons Historical Society, KS0172P, will be matched for placement on this year’s National Wreaths Across America Day, which will be Saturday, Dec. 13, at approximately 5,000 locations in the United States.
Oakwood, a registered WAA location, KSOWDC, and other local cemeteries in Parsons received close to 400 wreaths for placement on veterans’ graves last month.
The match will only be honored on online orders and checks dated and postmarked by Friday.
