Senior Center events
ALTAMONT — The Altamont Senior Citizens monthly fellowship lunch will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 23. The luncheon happens every fourth Thursday of the month. The menu will consist of ham and beans, cornbread, a variety of cakes, plus coffee, tea and water.
Breakfast and bingo will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24. The 60 plus congregate meals continue each Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Please call (515) 724-2124, or (620) 251-7313 to order a meal between 9 a.m. and noon the day before. Game day is every Wednesday at 1 p.m., and the health fair is the second Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. (blood pressure, oxygen level and blood sugar). Everyone aged 55 and older, and individuals who are on disability, are welcome. The center is located next to the Post Office on Huston Street.

WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m., story hour for ages 2 to 6; 1 to 4 p.m., free LIEAP help with applications for the Low Income Evergy Assistance Program; 4 p.m., story hour for ages 2 to 6.
THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens; 4 p.m., winter craft for all ages.
FRIDAY, Jan. 24: 4 p.m., Switch freeplay for teens.
Rotary chili feed is Feb. 8
The Parsons Rotary Club will have its annual chili feed fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Parsons Municipal Building basement. Patrons are welcome to dine in or carry out meals. The club is also accepting pre-orders for those planning a Super Bowl party. Email [email protected].
Ag payroll for producers
Kansas Farm Management Association (KFMA) will host the agricultural payroll for producers seminar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Road, in Parsons.
One of the hardest parts about owning a small business are the rules and laws of getting your employees paid. This workshop is for ag businesses with a few employees or farm hands to understand payroll. While geared toward ag businesses, this workshop could be useful to nearly any small business just getting started. The following topics will be covered: Employee classification, labor laws, payroll computation, payroll deposits and employee benefits.

Kansas Water Authority meets this month
TOPEKA — The Kansas Water Authority (KWA) will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Sunflower Nonprofit Center, 5820 S.W. Sixth Ave., Topeka, KS. For additional meeting information, visit the Kansas Water Office website calendar at kwo.ks.gov or call (785) 296-3185.
The KWA is responsible for advising the governor, Legislature and director of the Kansas Water Office on water policy issues. It also ensures that water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans as well as serve as advisers of the Kansas Water Plan. The KWA was established in 1981 and consists of 13 voting members who are appointed by the governor or legislative leadership. State agency directors serve as ex-officio members.
Winter hours at the museum
The Parsons Historical Museum has extended its winter hours and is now open the first weekend of every month through April.
On Saturdays and Sundays during this period, the museum will be open between 1 and 4 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcome.
Bohnenblust joins KHA board
DeLyna (Dee) Bohnenblust, a trustee for Labette Health, Parsons, was recently appointed to a one-year term as a director on the Kansas Hospital Association Board of Directors. The 21-member governing body oversees the organization’s strategic activities.
The Kansas Hospital Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that exists to be the leading advocate and resource for members. KHA membership includes 238 member facilities, of which 121 are full-service community hospitals.
Parsons Livestock Auction
On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 2,524 cattle.
Choice cows 128-142, canners-cutters 118-127, shelly cows 117 and down, bred cows up to $2,750, pairs up to $3,950; choice bulls 160-175, lower grades 159 and down.
Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 290-442.50; 400-500, 327-393; 500-600, 290-370; 600-700, 255-323; 700-800, 235-284; 800 and over, 220-255.
