CHANUTE — Kiley Dillow, who’s maintained an undefeated match streak dating back to the thirdplace match at state her freshman year, earned her 100th career victory for the Chanute Blue Comets in Thursday’s Chanute Girls Mixer.
“She’s had over 70 straight wins and she gets what she puts in,” Chanute girls wrestling head coach Nick Nothern said. “A lot of our underclassmen should look at her and try to model themselves after her. She puts in extra work on her own.”
The defending state champion, Dillow won the 170-pound A division in Thursday’s mixer.
“Kiley shows up to practice every day ready to work her butt off and does stuff on her own,” Nothern said. “She was in the room during volleyball season. She’s always trying to get better. That’s what it takes to be really good at something.”
Last week, just days before Dillow took the mat in Chanute, the NCAA officially sanctioned girls wrestling — it’s believed that the Blue Comets’ star wrestler will garner high-profile offers.
“If she wants to go Division I, she’ll have that opportunity if she wants to do it,” Nothern said. “I know she wants to wrestle at the next level and I think she’ll be successful there. Her natural talent, her mindset and intelligence … she has it and she’ll be very successful.”
Frontenac won Thursday’s mixer, posting 226 points. Independence was second (213), followed by Chanute (192), Fort Scott (180), Jayhawk-Linn (119), Neodesha (106), Labette County (95), Cherryvale (90), Columbus (85), Erie (77), Coffeyville (74), Girard (54) and Parsons (19).
Two Chanute wrestlers won their divisions — Dillow and Kyli Baylor, who won the 190-pound A bracket.
Labette County’s Hunter Myers won the 100-pound C division, pinning Kylee Coover of Fort Scott and Star Blanz of Fort Scott.
Cherryvale’s Alexis Graham and Katie Hester took first at 125-D and 155-B.
Erie had three of its four girls that attended win their divisions — Aubrey Tyalor at 125-C, Addi Martin at 130-A and Madi Cope at 135-A.
Parsons’ Saniya Knox won the 135-C division while Brittany Boucher won the 155-D bracket.
