Judith Kay ‘Judy’ Myers

ALTAMONT — Judith Kay “Judy” Myers, 81, of Altamont passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

Judy was born in Parsons on May 16, 1943, to Leo and Virginia Mae Guy Mahieu. She was the youngest of three children, having two older brothers, Jerry and Bill Mahieu, who adored their little sister.

Judy attended Lincoln Elementary School in Parsons and was fortunate to have her Aunt Esther Schlittler as her fifth grade teacher. She and Esther had a very close relationship. Judy went on to attend Parsons Junior High School and graduated from Parsons High School in May 1961. During her high school years, she was in the drum corps and her senior year she was the drum corps major. She also took business classes and was very involved in many clubs and organizations. Judy was a very good softball player and played second base for the Parsons Parkanas. Her softball talents led to playing catch and hitting many ground balls and pop flies to her kids and grandkids in the front yard. After graduation, Judy married the love of her life, Larry Dean Myers. The couple were married on June 23, 1961, at the Parsons Central Avenue Christian Church.

Judy was a city girl, but eventually moved to rural Cherryvale with Larry and lived on his great-grandfather’s farm. In 1974, Larry and Judy and their two children, Lori and Brad, moved to rural Altamont, where Larry was a dairy farmer and Judy worked at Olson’s Ace Hardware in Parsons. Judy was a wonderful mother and always made sure Lori and Brad had everything they needed and more. The farm was loved by the grandkids and many memories were made there. They loved feeding baby calves, driving the tractor, throwing rocks in the creek and spending the night with Meme and Papa. In 1976, Judy began a rewarding 47-year career in education. She began working for the SEK Interlocal 637 as a paraprofessional that year and retired in 2007. During that time, Judy dearly loved all of the students she worked with, and they adored her. Anytime Judy would see her former students they all knew her and she knew them. She had stories about all of them. They loved Mrs. Myers. During this time she also worked nights at Altamont Express Lane. She enjoyed visiting with the customers and they loved coming in and seeing her. Judy also worked for USD 506 from 2002 until her health forced her to retire in December 2023. During this time, Judy drove a suburban route that included taking preschool kids to school. She took pride in doing this and always delivered the kids safely and made sure they were loved and taken care of during her time with them. They never left her care during the holidays without a gift and a hug. Judy was an avid reader and served on the Altamont City Library Board for many years.

Judy was a loving and caring person and was not only MeMe to her grandkids and great-grandkids but also to anyone who knew her in Altamont. Judy was an excellent cook and loved hosting family dinners and making homemade ice cream and cinnamon rolls. She really enjoyed making popcorn balls at Halloween and her house was a popular stop for trick or treaters. She delighted in attending her kids’, grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ games and was their No. 1 fan, always cheering them on to victory.

Judy was a member of the Altamont Christian Church and was currently attending the Altamont Holiness Church.
