Fundraiser for Schibi twins

ERIE — A bowling fundraiser is planned for Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Lucky Strikes bowling alley in Erie.

The event times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The donation is $20 per person and that includes three games and shoe rental. Food and drinks are available for purchase as well. There also will be a 50-50 raffle.

Proceeds will support Luke and Shannon Schibi in covering NICU medical expenses for their twins, Noah and Liam.

Harris sparrow topic at Audubon

The life history of the Harris sparrow will be the program when the Southeast Kansas Audubon Society meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Parsons Arboretum, 2004 Briggs at the corner of 21st and Briggs in Glenwood Park.

Andrew George, associate professor of biology at Pittsburg State University, will make the presentation. George will speak on his research of banding and radio tagging the Harris sparrow, a winter resident of Southeast Kansas. The public is invited and refreshments will be served following the program.

Sunday country breakfast

BARTLETT — The Bartlett Community Church will host a Sunday country breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet menu will feature homemade sausage gravy served with biscuits, hash browns, scrambled eggs, egg casseroles, ham, sausage, fresh fruit, breakfast sweets, donuts, homemade cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice and milk. Donations will be accepted to support the ministry and mission work of the church. The public is invited to attend.

Carryout will be available for those who do not want to dine in. The church is located at 712 Main on the south side of Bartlett.

Beekeeping course

INDEPENDENCE — The Montgomery County Beekeepers Association will be hosting its seventh annual introduction to beekeeping course from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Independence Community College West, 2615 W. Main, in Independence. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. There will be an hour break for lunch. The cost for non-members is $25 per household for those preregistered or $30 at the door. For members who have paid their 2025 dues of $15, there is no cost, but members may purchase the book for $10 if desired. The price includes the course, a book entitled “First Lessons in Beekeeping” and a one-year club membership to the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association.

This is a one-day, beginner’s course that will prepare the new beekeeper for his or her first year of beekeeping. The course will cover where to purchase bees, equipment, safety precautions, hive inspections, beekeeper’s calendar and more. To pre-register, send checks to MCBA President Emmalee Hoggatt, 3550 W. 4200 St., Independence. Pre-registration is appreciated as this class has increased in popularity over the years.

Parsons USD 503 to meet Wednesday

The Parsons USD 503 Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Parsons High School Community Room with administrators and instructional coaches to review achievement data.
