Fire destroys garage, damages house

A late-night fire on Saturday destroyed a detached garage and damaged a house in Parsons.

The alarm came to Parsons firefighters at 10:36 p.m. Saturday. The call was for a garage on fire at 2912 Washington, a home owned by Ed Sebastiani and occupied by Troy Sharp.

Parsons Fire Chief Brad Boss said the garage had an unattended space heater in use, which is a potential cause for the fire.

He said the fire extended to the back side of the house, burning the vinyl siding and extending up into the eaves. Firefighters had the fire out within 20 minutes of the call but had to check for hot spots after that.

He estimated damage at $15,000 to the detached garage and the house.

No injuries were reported.

Parsons firefighters were called out at 6:52 p.m. Saturday to a grass fire in the 1700 block of Dirr. An unattended burn ring had started the grass fire and the flames extended under a fence to a neighbor’s yard, Boss said.
