Losing their ninth straight game in Kansas Jayhawk Conference play, the Labette Cardinals men fell to the Fort Scott Greyhounds, 59-50, on Saturday afternoon.

In a slow-paced game on both sides, Labette once again struggled to produce points.

“We couldn’t execute. Our problem all year is that we can’t execute offensively,” Labette head coach Jason Hinson said. “We guarded pretty well — well enough to give ourselves a chance.”

Both teams shot eight free throws apiece, converting on four. Hinson felt the Cardinals had the advantage in the post and lamented the lack of attempts at the charity stripe.

“We couldn’t get the ball inside,” Hinson said. “And when we had chances, we didn’t finish. We probably missed at least eight layups that were easy. And we had too many unforced turnovers. We threw momentum away.”

Labette fell to 6-19 overall and 0-9 in KJCCC play. Fort Scott improved to 12-10 and 4-5, respectively.

“I know I’m not getting any sleep. We’re trying to get it going,” Hinson said. “It’s like a divorced single mom. You want to cry. But you’ve got to get up, get the kids to school and try again another day. We’re not giving up. My message is that we can’t be numb to losing. When that happens, we’re done. It still has to bother us.”
