Benefit breakfast

ST. PAUL — Knights of Columbus Council 760 — St. Paul-Walnut-Erie — is hosting a benefit breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, at St. Francis Parish Hall, St. Paul.

The menu includes sausage, eggs, hotcakes, biscuits and gravy, and an opportunity for a friendly round-table visit. Cost is a free-will donation and proceeds will be directed to Jill Coomes who had a dangerous reaction to chemotherapy for colon cancer.

Food commodities

The Labette Assistance Center will offer a drive-thru distribution of U.S. Department of Agriculture food commodities from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 27, or until all of the food is distributed at the former Sunshine convenience store, 2301 Main St. Food to be distributed is USDA-quality canned, dry, fresh and frozen items.

This distribution is for qualifying households in Parsons and Dennis.

Eligibility will be based on monthly household income.

The income guideline for a household of one is a maximum of $1,632; two, $2,215; three, $2,798; four, $3,380; five, $3,963; and six, $4,546.

For each additional family member, $583 is added.

Those with incomes higher than the TEFAP guidelines who still need help may call for a food pantry appointment at 421-0700.

The drive-thru entry will be on North 23rd Street, with the line forming on Washington Avenue. Signs will direct traffic.

Recipients of the food are asked to not line up before 9:30 a.m. and to not block driveways.

Those who qualify but are working or unable to attend during distribution hours may have a proxy (designee) pick up for them.

There will be a limit of one proxy per person.

Service providers with employee photo badges may pick up for more than one client at a time if all information is provided upon check-in.

At the library

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., AARP tax assistance; 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 4 p.m., children’s craft for ages 2 to 10; 6 p.m., family bingo.

TUESDAY: 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18; 6 p.m., book discussion of “The House of Broken Angels” led by Kevin Rabas.

WEDNESDAY: 4:15 p.m., Let’s Play for ages 5 and under.

THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens; 6 p.m., special library board meeting.

FRIDAY, Feb. 28: 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.

Senior citizens lunch

ALTAMONT — The Altamont senior citizens fellowship lunch will be at noon on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the center in Altamont.

The menu is ranch baked chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and a roll provided by Oswego Health and Rehab. Gentiva Hospice will furnish the dessert. And at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, Parsons Presbyterian Manor will bring breakfast followed by bingo.

Planners meeting rescheduled

The Parsons Planning Commission/ Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the Parsons Municipal Building. The meeting was rescheduled from this week because of weather.

Rotary chili feed a success

The annual Parsons Rotary Club chili feed was a success in attendance and in raising money. While the total figures weren’t available, the club reported in its newsletter that it collected $7,876 in ticket and cinnamon roll sales plus donations at the door. The club anticipates the profit to be close to $6,000 after expenses.
