Karen Sue Schenker

OSWEGO — Karen Sue Schenker, 81, passed away at 1:16 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at her home.

She was born Oct. 21, 1943, in Fort Scott to Gentry and Georgia Lucille (Miller) Farrell. She graduated from high school in Rich Hill, Missouri, with the Class of 1961.

Karen married Billie “Bill” Ray Schenker later that year in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2019.

Bill and Karen were blessed with four sons, Kevin (Cherie) of McCune, Kent (Jennifer) of Oswego, Kyle (Amy) of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Kraig of Oswego. She delighted in her 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Roger Farrell of Butler, Missouri.

She worked for several years as a para-professional at Neosho Heights Elementary School, Oswego. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Oswego, where she actively participated as the Christmas program director and was the church organist for a long time.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 522 Fifth St., Oswego.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Rocco Mallardi and Pastor David Symm will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, south of Oswego. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego.

The family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
