PARSONS CHESS TOURNEY
Parsons chess team members Lucas Fugate (lower left) faced off with Chanute’s Eric Erbe and Kyle Chen (top right) faced off with Chanute’s Jacob Hurtado. Fugate and Hurtado finished first and second, respectively. The Parsons chess team hosted a tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Parsons Middle School. Parsons High School was represented with a three-man team that came away with the second place trophy with 15 points. All three team members placed in the top 10 medal winners. In the K-12 division, Lucas Fugate was the gold medalist with a perfect score of 6 wins. His teammate, Kyle Chen, had a near perfect day, winning 5 of 6 matches and earning the third place medal. Teammate Raymond Oler had a strong finish with 4 wins and earned the seventh place medal. In the K-12 division, there were eight teams with 28 participants. The K-8 division featured nine teams and 40 participants. Parsons one player. Gabriel Klonowski made a strong showing with 4 wins and earned the seventh place medal.
