Galesburg Fire Department gets $10K grant

GALESBURG — The Galesburg Volunteer Fire Department has received a $10,000 grant that will upgrade fire and rescue equipment for the department.

Fire Chief John Lilburn said in a prepared statement that Trident Rescue LLC provided the grant that will pay for rescue equipment, gear and training, which will improve fire department readiness.

Lilburn said despite limited funding, the department has continued to work toward updating equipment. The grant will help the department respond to water rescues calls in and out of the district.

“This grant will allow us to more safely combat fires in our community,” Lilburn said in the statement. “This grant from Trident Rescue LLC helps ease some of that pressure and will allow us to continue to help serve the community where it matters most.”

The department is responsible for more than 870 residents who live in a 94 square mile area in and around Galesburg. They also have mutual aid agreements that expand this territory to 500 square miles and 3,500 residents.

If anyone is interested in becoming a Galesburg volunteer firefighter, they can call (620) 765-6006 or attend the meetings at the fire station, 109 Second, in Galesburg on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
