Upcoming dates to remember for Nov. 5 general election

The general election will be Nov. 5 and voters will decide on a number of statewide and federal offices, including the president of the United States.

Voting will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Polling places will be the same as the primary election in August.

Important dates for voters: — Registration books close Oct. 16 and will remain closed until Nov. 6. The last day to register to vote for the general election will be Oct. 15.

You may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office, Oswego City Clerk’s Office; Department of Motor Vehicles; DCF offices; U.S. Mail (request Kansas voter registration application by mail or telephone); voter registrations are available online at: www. labettecounty.com, or www. votekansas.gov.

A citizen of the United States who is 18 years of age and older or will have attained the age of 18 years at the next election, must register before he or she may vote. The application shall be signed under penalty of perjury. When a voter has been registered according to law his or her registration shall continue to be valid until one of the following occurs: The voter changes residence, or the voter fails to vote in two consecutive state general elections. If either of the above occurs, you must re-register.

— Advance ballot voting started Aug. 7 for the general election and ends on Tuesday, Oct. 29. You must complete an application to receive an advanced ballot. Applications for advance ballots are available at the Labette County Clerk’s Office or by calling (620) 7952138. A printable application for an Advance Ballot is available on the county website (www. labettecounty.com/election-offi ce) or Kansas Secretary of State website (www.sos.ks.gov/ forms/elections/AV1.pdf). Advanced ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Day at any polling location or at the county clerk’s office. Mailed advanced ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 5 and received in the clerk’s office no later than Friday, Nov. 8.

— Early voting will begin Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the county clerk’s office in Oswego. Early voting ends at noon Nov. 4.

The Election Day count is not official until the board of canvassers review the balloting on Nov. 18.
