Montgomery County beekeepers
The Montgomery County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Independence Community College West, 2615 W. Main St., in Independence.
Many potential new beekeepers have questions about how to begin beekeeping, how to get bees and new beekeepers need to know what they should be doing at this time of year. In April, some honeybee colonies will begin preparations to swarm and will actually begin swarming. This meeting will give ideas on how to attempt to prevent this and how to catch swarms when it does happen.
Information will be provided on making and setting up swarm traps. There will be time for discussions as many beekeepers come with questions for which they are seeking answers. The meetings are always open to the public.

The national Wreaths Across America Day placed 3.1 million wreaths at veterans’ headstones across the nation on Dec. 14. Locally, volunteers placed 384 wreaths on veterans’ graves at Oakwood Cemetery and other cemeteries in the area.
As we honor our veterans, we also honor the host grounds for allowing the mission to be fulfilled with a follow-up effort of wreath retirement or clean up.
Please join us for this year’s wreath retirement as we need volunteers to help with this effort at 1 p.m. March 16, at Oakwood Cemetery, 300 S. Leawood, Parsons.
