Josh R. McGuire

MOUND VALLEY — Josh R. McGuire, 42, of Mound Valley passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Josh Ray McGuire was born on April 6, 1982, to Jacky Ray and Wanda L. (McNickle) McGuire in Coffeyville. He grew up and attended school in Mound Valley, graduating from Labette County High School in 2000. He attended Coffeyville Community College for vocational training for one year.

For over 20 years, he was a mechanic at formerly WSKT, now Old Dominion, where he was currently employed.

Josh was a member of the Independence Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.

He led a simple life and enjoyed having fun, especially if the fun was outdoors. He liked hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and playing golf. Cooking was another favorite pastime, especially grilling and experimenting with new spices.

Survivors include his mother, Wanda McGuire of Mound Valley; a brother, Nick McGuire of Independence; a sister, Sara Byrd and her husband, Toby, of Cherryvale; and two nieces, Bethany Byrd and Hilary Byrd.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack McGuire, on Sept. 13, 2013.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Center Bethel Church in Parsons. Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.

The family suggests memorials to the Wyatt the Warrior Foundation. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
