PARSONS CHESS TEAM
Parsons chess team competed at the state chess tournament in Emporia on Saturday. In the K-12 division, there were 153 participants representing 25 schools. Parsons High School was represented with three members and placed 14th overall with 12.5 points. Lucas Fugate (above left), PHS senior, led the team with a 5-1 record for the day. Lucas won the ninth place medal out of 153 participants. He also was the top placer in Class 4A. Kyle Chen (above, center), PHS freshman, won 4.5 games and earned the 16th place medal. Raymond Oler (right), PHS sophomore, added 3 wins to the team score. In Class 4A, Parsons tied for second place but lost in the tie breaker. In the K-8 division, there were 144 participants. Parsons Middle School had two students participating. Gabe Klonowski won 3 matches for the day. He placed 68th out of 144. Gavin Bocook had 3 wins and placed 79th. Courtesy photo
