Traffic stop, search lead to arrests, seizure of over 2 pounds of meth

COFFEYVILLE — An early morning traffic stop on Saturday and a Tuesday search of a Coffeyville home led to the seizure of 2 pounds of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The attempted traffic stop happened around 6:18 a.m. Saturday when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a 2010 Ford Edge near County Road 4550 and County Road 2875, north of Coffeyville. The driver accelerated when the deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens but came to a stop shortly thereafter.

Following a felony traffic stop, deputies detained the two occupants of the car, Cheyenne Dodge of Coffeyville and Anisha Jones of Independence. Law enforcement K-9 Pax conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics, according to a release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Further investigation revealed that Jones had allegedly concealed a substantial amount of methamphetamine on her person during the pursuit. In total, deputies seized approximately 491 grams (1.08 pounds) of meth.

Dodge and Jones were transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections and booked. Dodge is held on suspicion of distribution of meth, fleeing and attempting to elude, felony interference with law enforcement and failure to use a turn signal. Jones is being held on suspicion of distribution of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony interference with law enforcement.

Sheriff Ron Wade commended the deputies involved in the release. “Great job to the deputies for being proactive and getting a large, dangerous narcotic off the street and out of this community. Being out there taking a proactive approach to stopping vehicles leads to findings like this, as well as the apprehension of individuals with warrants, violent subjects, and other crimes.”

The search warrant tied to the traffic stop happened at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detectives and deputies, along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, executed a narcotics search warrant at 2653 County Road 4550 Lot 1, Coffeyville. This residence belongs to Dodge, who was in the Montgomery County Department of Corrections at the time of the search for the previous case.

Deputies made contact with Christian Dodge of Coffeyville at the residence before the search. A search of the premises resulted in the discovery of nearly a pound of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a handgun.

Christian Dodge was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Department of Corrections on suspicion of possession of marijuana. Officers and deputies also are going to recommend additional charges for Cheyenne Dodge, including methamphetamine distribution, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute and criminal use of a firearm. A 17-year-old juvenile was also taken into custody in connection with the investigation, according to a release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

“This operation was a continuation of our efforts following the initial arrest involving a pound of methamphetamine. The discovery of an additional nearly pound of methamphetamine, which was poised to be distributed in our community, highlights the proactive measures we are taking. Over two pounds have been removed from our community in just a few days, thanks to the diligent work of our team at the sheriff’s office,” Sheriff Wade said in the release.

This case will be forwarded to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for formal charges. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
